Social networks may play a role in the battle against fear. In october, 2014, Facebook released a tool called Safety Check, aimed to secure relatives and friends after a natural disaster. It works with Gps, and allows you, just pushing a botton, to tell everyone that you are safe and sound.
For the first time, after Paris’ recent attacks, the tool has been used for a terrorist attack. And it worked. Over 4.1 million people used Safety Check to inform their friends they were alright. Over 360 million people around the world felt relieved after knowing their friends were safe.
It is important to everyone to feel secure and safe. Towards the last decade, our society has had to deal with terrorism and fear. Social networks are helping fighting the fear.
