Dear Vogue, we love haters

It seems that everyone makes gaffes, also Vogue America. Last week, Vogue.com published a Milan fashion week wrap-up in which four editors hurl abuse at the fashion blogger’s empire. Bloggers were accused of being “pathetic” and “desperate”. Sally Singer, Vogue’s creative digital director, said: “It’s a schizophrenic moment, and that just can’t be good. (Note to bloggers who change head-to-toe, paid-to-wear outfits every hour: Please stop. Find another business. You are heralding the death of style.)”

Nicole Phelps, director of the magazine’s runway app, wrote: “It’s not just sad for the women who preen for the cameras in borrowed clothes, it’s distressing, as well, to watch so many brands participate”.

Many bloggers reacted in different ways, for example Chiara Ferragni replied with the T-shirt “I love haters”.

What leaves us speechless is the anachronistic nature of the issue, it seems that these journalists live back in the days when the newspapers held the absolute power.

The world has changed: today digital influencers are entrepreneurs and brands use them for advertising. In the same way magazines, including Vogue, put them on covers.

Maybe fashion journalists didn’t pay attention to it, but today the role of fashion critic needs to be reviewed, with the arrival of “see now buy now”.

It is not the world that has to adapt to Vogue, but it’s Vogue which has to chase the world.
